What is a journal?

A journal is a scholarly publication containing articles written by researchers, academics and other experts. Journals focus on a specific discipline or field of study.

UKZN Library has a range of journals in print as well as online.

Many academic journals are not freely available via search facilities such as Google, libraries pay for access, thus you need to go to the Library's website to access journals.

Google Scholar is an international index to scholarly literature but does not have the rights to make full text freely available. If UKZN subscribes to an article, click on its title to get to the full text.

Print journals

  • From the Library website click on the catalogue.
  • Type in the title of the journal and click on the search tab.
  • Identify the relevant library and section of the library in which the journal is located..

Finding eJournals

  • From the Electronic resources page option on the Library Website click on e-Journals A-Z.
  • If the journal is available online, access details will be provided showing where the journal appears and the time coverage.

e -Journals

The following are some of the e-journals available. An alphabetical list of all journals for which UKZN has some sort of electronic access can be found via the 'e- journals' option under the Electronic Resources tab on the library webpage.
