What is referencing?

Referencing is a practice of acknowledging other peoples works, ideas, sources used in a paper, assignment, report and conference papers in academic writing.

Referencing can be done manually as well as electronically.  There are several electronic bibliographic management systems available which can assist you with painfree referencing.

EndNote is a popular and powerful tool that helps you manage your research.  This package is available at UKZN. EndNote is downloadable from the UKZN software library.The library offers training sessions in both these packages helping students with the creation of an electronic bibliography.

The desktop version of EndNote is available to download from the University's software library. EndNote is software that enables you to create and manage a library of references. It works with Word so you can reference a document whilst typing and create a bibliography in a variety of referencing styles.
