What is referencing?

Referencing is a practice of acknowledging other peoples works, ideas, sources used in a paper, assignment, report and conference papers in academic writing.

Referencing can be done manually as well as electronically.  There are several electronic bibliographic management systems available which can assist you with painfree referencing.

EndNote is a popular and powerful tool that help you manage your research.  This package is available at UKZN.  EndNote is downloadable from the UKZN software library. The library offers training sessions in both these packages helping students with the creation of an electronic bibliography.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is not just about  taking someone else's ideas and writings from books, journals and websites and pretending they are your own. academic. It is essential in an academic environment to indicate where you got your information and ideas from - your lecturers and supervisors want to see what you have read.

EndNote

EndNote enables you to move seamlessly through your research process with flexible tools for searching, organizing and sharing your research, creating your bibliography and writing your paper.

Endnote enables the user to create a library of references which can be used with Word when creating a document and to create bibliographies. A wide range of referencing styles, including that of publishers are available on Endnote.
