REFERENCING IN MEDIA STUDIES

Referencing indicates the  sources  used in a document and gives credit to the original authors.

Media Studies uses the Harvard  Reference Style (author/date).

EndNote

EndNote is an electronic package for creating and storing a library of references (citations plus abstracts, notes etc) which can then be used in conjunction with the typing of Word documents. Full text documents, figures, tables etc can be added to the references as attachments.

Turnitin

Turnitin is an internet based tool used to check and detect similarities in an essay or any kind of academic related document with existing published literature. It is licensed based software which is obtained through a subscription by the university. To use Turnitin you will need to register at www.turnitin.com, after getting a class ID from your lecturer or supervisor.

When you register as a student on Turnitin, be sure to use your UKZN email address.
