The Bews Herbarium also known as the Natal University Herbarium (NU) dates back to 1910 and is the fifth largest herbarium in the country and the largest in KwaZulu-Natal. It contains well preserved plant specimens that are stored in custom made cabinets and arranged systematically to ensure quick access to both students and researchers. Apart from the plant specimens, the herbarium also houses an excellent collection of botanical books.
The Bews Herbarium is located in the John Bews Building, B-block, Room 201, at the School of Life Sciences, Pietermaritzburg Campus in Scottsville.
