Artificial intelligence refers to the development of computer systems that can perform tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and natural language understanding. AI has many applications - robotics, chatbots ( as seen on the University site), social media, medicine, finance, retail purchase predictions, virtual assistants, education, online shopping, Google Translate and so on.
AI is useful for saving time with repetitive tasks and streamlining.
Generative Artificial intelligence (GenAI) is a type of AI that rapidly generates text, images, audio or video. ChatGPT is an example of GenAI. ChatGPT uses large language models (LLMs) to generate text in response to questions or comments posed to it.
As with any other facility or activity, there is a need for a code of ethics. Issues around privacy of information, bias or inaccurate or fake information, consent for information to be reused, rehashed etc, copyright, environmental concerns (AI is very power hungry) to name but a few.
